Louis Xvi Cut Glass Buffet

This incredible piece of furniture is indescribably beautiful. There are times when words cannot fully convey the true splendor of these magnificent pieces; this is one such occasion. This style evolved during the reign of King Louis XVI of France, during the twenty years previous to the Revolution the style of French furniture reached a high standard of artistic excellence, both in design and execution, although it is a direct reaction from the Rococo ornamentation and the excessive curves of the previous reign. Straight lines replaced flowing curves and floral patterns and acanthus leaves gave way to finials and delicate inlays. This piece is a magnificent specimen of an all-original antique from this time period. It is exquisite from foot to crown. We start by looking at the amazing paned glass on the three display doors, this is not a grid-work, but a series of individual beveled glass pieces each framed in a curved pattern on the outer doors. The carved cornice is subtly beautiful. Lathe turned columns on the sides flow into the lower half of this piece. The deeply veined marble counter top is truly stunning!! The two dovetailed drawers on the bottom have their original brass pulls and feature delicate carvings on the front. Garlands grace the lower cabinet doors in true elegance. Every part of this piece is extraordinary. This buffet should reside in a place of honor in your home. c640oc676
