Dark Antique French Dining Table
This is a table from an entire dining set, definitely old French style! The newer sets that were made were always done in the light golden oak, and the dark sets were made around the turn of the century, up to about the 1920's, and done in a very dark oak. Actually, they are difficult to obtain in France or Belgium because they are so well loved by the Europeans, so they don't want to let them go. This table is quite a large one, easily able to comfortably seat six people. The extensions are also very large, 28 inches each, so you could easily increase the seating by four more, and still have plenty of room and comfort. These extensions tuck underneath the top of the table, and effortlessly pull out on either side. Notice the large parquet on the top of the table in large rectangles. The apron is curved and scalloped, with a straight accent across the middle, which gives a very interesting contrast. There is a carved design in the center of the apron on either side. The four large cabriole legs gently curve out awt the knee, and slim down at the ankle, with the turned up toes on the end--totally classic! This is a table that is solid oak, and meant to last through generations in beauty and style. NOTE: Because of a little metal plaque attached on the inside of the door to the china cabinet in this set, we know where this piece was made: "Fabrique Mecanique de Meubles, MICHEL PIRARD, 416 Rue de Herve 416, Bois de Breux, Liege," which translates into "manufacturer of furniture, MICHEL PIRARD, street address and town, near Liege, which is just east of Brussels, Belgium.
