Antique Flemish Oak Bookcase

Until the middle of the 17th century the style of Dutch and Flemish furniture was similar. After that, while Holland developed a style of her own, Flemish furniture followed French fashions. The wood chiefly used was oak and the distinguishing feature was a profusion of elaborate carving. This piece is an example of this style. Notice the angled cup and saucer legs! The lower cabinet features a fantastic set of raised carvings with the most wonderful scenes of peasant life. By far the most incredible feature of this piece is the lead grid over the glass windows on the display case. Wouldn’t this be the most wonderful place to display all of your finest volumes in style! You could also use it as an amazing china cabinet. Whatever your fancy, this cabinet is an excellent addition to your home.
