Handsome Antique Art Deco Dresser
This is definitely art deco in style, which became vogue sometime after the turn of the century, and eventually became a style of it's own. Since the beginning of it's conception, there have been many pieces of furniture crafted after this style. Some of them have been of poor quality, and some of really great quality. This dresser happens to be on of those pieces that is absolutely fabulous! It is made of a solid European oak, very hard and beautiful, and is topped with an incredibly beautiful and thick marble, including the back splash, and crowned with a beveled framed mirror. There is a wide cornice that runs straight across the top of the mirror, and then arches gracesfully over the mirro, including big carved flowers in the corners, and draped on the top of each side. The mirror would have to be hand beveled to follow that curve, so you know it is valuable. The marble is a golden color, with lots of rust brown veining running throughout, and the sides of the splash are beautifully curved. This is a marble quarried in Belgium, and no longer available--the value of this piece just keeps adding up! The bottom piece has two drawers with two doors beneath, with plenty of storage room, and wide carved flowers draped at the top of the two sides matching the top. The drawers are dove-tailed, of course! Notice the panel construction of the back and the sides--quality ooozzes out of this dresser for sure! The crowning glory to the piece are the brass pulls and escutcheons, which are original and are definitely a perfect match for the art deco style of the dresser--every single detail of this dresser adds up to FABULOUS!!!
