Antique Ceramic Blue And White Deflt Mantlepiece Clock Set

I have to admit that I know very little about this clock set, other than it is absolutely stunning, and I had it in my house for many years in Belgium before we moved back to the states. Regretfully, there is no place in our new home for it, so I am offering it for sale on our site. I actually don't know if it is ceramic or porcelain, but there is a small crack on the left side of the clock by the brass handle which looks to me to be terra cota. The blue and white painting on the candleabras and clock is a classic delft pattern, and is beautifully done. The brass ornamentation on all the pieces is really exquisite, from the flowered handles, to the pedestal bottoms, and the cutwork on the tops. The crowning glory is the mythical bird that proudly sits on the crown of the clock. We do not know if the clock is in working order, but we have the key for it and the pendulum. I never cared if it worked or not, because it was so beautiful. I just wanted it to decorate the mantle, and I must say that everyone who ever saw it made comments about how handsome it was, and asked where I got it. It really does look like something that would come out of one of the castles in France. I saw it at an early morning flea market in Brussels, and immediately fell in love! Now you have the great luck to buy such a unique antique! nnoc450
