Huge Antique Royalty Armchair
This chair could easily be found in any of the chateaus or castles that dot the French countryside—it is truly museum quality! It must have been made around the 1860's, absolutely hand carved of solid oak and in fabulous condition! Can you imagine what a stunning sight this chair would make in the entry way to your home, or in a prominent place in the den or family room! WOW! It is gorgeous! The carving that frames the tall back is absolutely incredible, with intricate detail and depth. It features a flared vase filled with fruits, framed by dragons, with scrolled leaves and foliages all the way around. There are two thick barley twist columns on either side topped by a tall finial. The fabric is mohair, incredibly durable and plush, and deep royal red, in great condition! These thick barley twist columns are also repeated down from the arms, and across all the stretchers. Notice the carved “griffins” that are at the edge of the arms—great fearsome mythical animals to protect the royal estate! Can you imagine what an exciting gift this would made for the King of your mansion—it would surely be an unforgettable Christmas and generations down the line will benefit from such an acquisition!
