Antique Gothic Oak Frame Upholstered Bench

The style period between 12th and 16th century is known as Gothic. This style derived from Roman architecture and was seen in France by the middle of the 12th century. It is characterized by the use of highly decorative panels and the use of indigenous woods. This period of about 350 years covers a wide range of development in the decorative arts from early crude simplicity to later luxurious elaboration. Exquisitely wrought tracery was the special glory of every church and Cathedral. The English, however, excelled the French in the development of ecclesiastical woodcarving. At this period the same forms appeared in both secular and religious work. The pointed arch, carved, foliated ornament and tracery are the signs manual of the style. Look at this incredible bench; it incorporates many of the innovations common in both the English and French schools. The quality of this piece is second to none! This piece is the perfect combination of glorious hardwood, beautiful upholstery and incredible style. This piece instantly becomes the centerpiece of any setting it is placed in; you could simply build a room around this piece. Notice the turrets with the medieval crest in the center. Along with the lion’s head accents on the armrests, this piece is fit for the palace of a king! The upholstery was recently purchased in Paris and is fabulous! Wouldn’t this piece look amazing in your home?
