Spacious Antique Needlepoint Armchair
This is a rather wide, spacious armchair, being 29" wide across the front, and 43" tall at the back. The frame is intricately carved, with graceful Louis XV style lines, including the beautifgul cabriole leg, with the unique "hoof" feet. Notice the meticulous carving on the front scalloped apron of the chair, with a pattern of a flared seashell and flowers on either side. The needlepoint is a very unusual pattern featuring a dark maroon background with very large flowers in pink and gold and green. There is a pattern of two birds on the seats, and an elaborate pattern of fictional birds on the back. If you examine this chair carefully, you will see that the petit point for the birds both on the seat and the back has not been completed. It is my opinion that the person working on these pieces must have passed away, and there was no one in the family who had the skill to finish the job. It was so incredibly good looking just as it stood, that they decided to go ahead with the upholstery the way it is. It is actually a very handsome chair, in excellent condition, and will definitely make an elegant statement of style in your decor.
