Antique Rocaille Bed Frame
The name Rococo comes from two French words, Rocaille, meaning rock, and Coquille, which can be translated as shell. A florid style of ornamentation common from 1740, designed from rocks and shells and of Chinese origin. It followed the Baroque style and was much used by the French and by Chippendale in his adaptation of the French style in his furniture. This bed frame is an awesome example of this style of French furniture. This bed is crafted from the finest walnut. On first inspection, your eyes will be instantly drawn to the massive carving on the crown of the headboard. This carving is the type of accent, which garnered the name, Rococo. Look at the way this accent resembles some form of seashell. Next we look at the massive curves that make up the flowing lines of this piece. The corners are rounded and fabulous, creating an air of sophistication that only true antiques can bring. A clever medallion is carved in the center of the footboard—awesome! Notice the book matched quarter-sawn veneers on the head and footboards! The bedrails are scalloped and wonderful.
