Stylish Fragonard Armchair

This chair is a historical and design conversational piece. With the use of two design styles in the wood and upholstery you will surely love this chair. This wonderful sturdy frame is a Louis XV classic. Louis XV was the legendary king of France and was known for his fantastic taste for luxury and expense. The period of Louis XV was the most gorgeous of the world in its rich and luxurious creations of decorative furniture. During this period the cabinet-makers use the curved line more freely, the Rococo influence increases, no classic motifs are found. Cabriole legs assume stronger curves, the arms, seat rails and framing of the backs of chairs are curved and elaborately carved. This chair is painstakingly carved throughout the entire piece. The back of the chair is curved and topped with beautiful ornate floral and leaf carvings. The arms, legs, and apron carry out this floral and leaf theme with carvings found along the sides. The legs are a slight cabriole and give the chair a fancy look. The upholstery on this chair is wonderful and features a Fragonard style. Fragonard conviviality was legend, was described by his early biographers as a man of many love affairs as well as many talents. In reality, we know little of Fragonard's personal life; he left nothing in writing. In lieu of fact, his biography seems to have been derived from the images he created--erotic scenarios, frivolous gallant assemblies, and imaginative allegories. Much like his teacher Boucher, Fragonard's art evokes the courtly fantasies of the eighteenth century. Also like Boucher, Fragonard's fanciful subject matter has caused him to be underestimated as a serious painter. His themes, while never profound, were done with sensitivity to color and texture that reveals a sincere love for the pleasures of the senses. Today, Fragonard is considered a master artist and his pieces are priceless. The upholstery is in very good condition and features men and women frolicking about much like those painted by Fragonard. The colors are a rich matted color that adds to the sophistication of the piece. The upholstery is found on the back, seat, and arms of the chair and is completed with wonderful brass nail head trim. This really is wonderful piece of furniture that will bring years of joy in your home or office.
