Original Mid 1800’s Silk Fireplace Screen

This remarkable silk and brass fireplace screen is truly a find and a treasure. While we don’t have the exact dates, we do know that it was made approximately in the mid 1800’s in France. We have never seen this style outside of museums. The brass work is all handcrafted for the top to the bottom. The spindles are hand twisted and the top has a fabulous crest and shell. The upholstery is made up of silk embroidered over velvet. The embroidery is really amazing. You see a traditional Renaissance couple enjoying merrymaking in the center with intricate medieval designs surrounding them. The upholstery backed by a wooden frame with cording around the edges for a completed look. This wonderful antique has not been altered so it is in fragile condition. Owning a piece of history like is a once in a lifetime opportunity. m8oc185
